Conservative firebrand Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., has been ousted from the conservative Freedom Caucus, a member of its board has said.
Maryland GOP Rep. Andy Harris told Politico on Thursday that “[a] vote was taken to remove Marjorie Taylor Greene from the House Freedom Caucus for some of the things she’s done.”
Occurring last week, the results of the vote first became public on Thursday due to Harris’s statement. He did not indicate how he voted.
A source within Greene’s office told Just the News it had no official confirmation that she had been removed. In response to the reports of her ouster, however, Greene issued the following statement to Just the News:
“In Congress, I serve Northwest Georgia first, and serve no group in Washington,” she said. “My America First credentials, guided by my Christian faith, are forged in steel, seared into my character, and will never change. I fight every single day in the halls of Congress against the hate-America Democrats, who are trying to destroy this country.”
“I will work with ANYONE who wants to secure our border, protect our children inside the womb and after they are born, end the forever foreign wars, and do the work to save this country,” she continued. “The GOP has less than two years to show America what a strong, unified Republican-led Congress will do when President Trump wins the White House in 2024. This is my focus, nothing else.”
Her apparent ouster follows intense squabbles between Greene and members of the Caucus, most notably over her vehement support for House Speaker Kevin McCarthy during the leadership contest.
The Caucus had resisted handing the California lawmaker the speaker’s gavel, but largely relented after he made major concessions on House rules and committee appointments.
Later in the year, Greene was a proponent of the compromise debt deal that McCarthy negotiated with President Joe Biden, while many members of the Caucus were vocally opposed.
At least one member, Rep. Dan Bishop, R-N.C., floated ousting McCarthy from party leadership over the deal.
